Job Summary

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Up to 50 Pounds (Medium) – occasionally
  • Lift and handle 50 lb. loads of plants and planting materials, must wear protective clothing as needed. Must be able to wear backpack sprayer for extended period of time.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in tight quarters, outdoors in all weather conditions, and indoors in a warm humid environment.
  • Position requires employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious plant diseases are present.
  • Must be able to work periodic evenings and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience with fertilizing, pruning, propagating, and transplanting plants to maintain health and growth.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of horticulture, plant environmental needs, and ecology sufficient to understand teaching collection objectives.
  • Skill to use common hand and power tools.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred License/Certification:

  • Qualified Applicators Certified or ability to become certified within 6 months of employment.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Plumbing and mechanical skills sufficient to assemble, troubleshoot, and repair fertilizer injectors, and automated irrigation systems.
  • Skills and knowledge to scout for pest infestations and assist with IPM program.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse environmental control systems.
