POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager or designee, the Nurse Practitioner performs a variety of duties involving clinical healthcare, education, and research activities for the patient population at the Worcester State University Student Health Center.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides comprehensive health care needs of the specific patient population and provide appropriate direct patient care through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of specific conditions. Collaborate with other staff when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with department faculty to provide comprehensive care to service specific patients at off-site locations in an ambulatory setting
  • Assesses patient's health through history taking and physical examination.
  • Responsible for diagnosis, management and appropriate referral of patients within department protocols
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests according to established guidelines.
  • Completes all patient medical records and insurance billing documents in compliance with established regulatory and assigned worksite guidelines.
  • Facilitates and/or coordinates patient care intra-and interdepartmentally at work site and outside agencies.
  • Develops and provides educational materials and/or programs to patients, families and other health care professionals at work site.
  • Assumes formal teaching responsibilities within area of expertise and precepts nurse practitioner students, as appropriate.
  • May participate in nursing and/or medical research.
  • Participates in defining nursing standards, practices and educational needs of staff who care for the specific patient population.
  • Actively participates in the departmental quality assurance program.
  • Performs other duties as required


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MSN and 3 years of progressively responsible nursing experience, or equivalent
  • Massachusetts licensed Registered Nurse
  • Authorization to practice in the expanded role of a Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nursing for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Certification from a professional organization as a Practitioner in the appropriate area of specialty
  • Physical requirements include near visual acuity to observe changes in health/ illness status of patients. Manual skills required include good eye and hand coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ambulatory/community health nursing expertise preferred
