Job Summary

This Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to the department of Head and Neck Medical Oncology.  In collaboration with the supervising physician and the administrative supervisor, the NP cares for patients receiving treatment for head and neck cancers.  The NP provides clinical guidance for patients receiving systemic therapy for head and neck malignancies including management of treatment toxicities, management of oncologic emergencies, symptom management, care coordination, assistance with triage, and other duties as assigned.  

One of the following National NP Board Certifications are required for this role: AGNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, AGACNP-BC, AGPCNP-BC, ACNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, GNP-C, GNP-BC, or ACNPC.   

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science.  As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. Clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations.  The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Medical Center and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 100+ cost center, and dozens of grant and philanthropic funding sources.  At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research.  We are routinely voted a top 10 program by U.S. News and World Report.


Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner I 

  • Minimum four (4) years recent oncology nursing experience.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.

Nurse Practitioner II

  • Two (2) years recent oncology experience as a Nurse Practitioner or completion of a one year comprehensive oncology APP fellowship program. 
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties   of the assigned position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Head and Neck Medical Oncology patients 

License/Certification

  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position  
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work

  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master’s degree program as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Must obtain an active and/or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice 
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
