Duke Center for Combinatorial Gene Regulation 

About Us: The Biostatistics & Bioinformatics department at Duke University is seeking an intern to dynamically lead and implement communication efforts as part of the NIH-funded Center for Combinatorial Gene Regulation, an NHGRI Center of Excellence in Genome Science (CEGS). The focus of the Duke CEGS is to develop new and high-throughput technologies to investigate how combinatorial gene regulation contributes to human health and disease. A multidisciplinary team of seven Duke principal investigators leads the project. The intern will be tasked with developing a communication and networking plan, along with communication materials, specifically for CEGS education initiatives with a focus on outreach to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

Internship Summary: Partner with communication team members and research program leadership to develop and implement a communication strategy and associated materials in support of genomic outreach and education initiatives.

Scope of Work 

Opportunity to:

● Partner with communication teams for mentorship and networking with access to various communication platforms and modalities.

● Create content in the form of website content and news stories, social media outreach, and videos, etc. to help promote Duke CEGS education initiatives.

● Develop communication strategy and implement.

● Identify and build networks to reach key audiences.

Requirements:

● Knowledge or interest in community relationships with a focus on genetics/genomics and/or educational outreach initiatives.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently, and ability to effectively communicate ideas and plans to program leadership.

● Solution-focused thinker with eagerness to develop creative and integrated campaigns.
