The University of Houston-Downtown is seeking bilingual students with proficiency in English and Spanish to translate Story Maps as a part of a Library of Congress grant project focused on “Discovering Afro-Latino Heritage”. This position involves translating Story Maps content between English and Spanish to create a comprehensive and accessible collection for our faculty and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate Story Maps content from English to Spanish and vice versa
- Ensure accurate and contextually appropriate translations, maintaining the original meaning and tone
- Collaborate with faculty and students to understand the context and content of the Story Maps
- Review and edit translations for accuracy, grammar, and clarity
- Maintain consistent communication with project supervisors and team members
- Meet project deadlines and manage translation tasks effectively
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in both written and spoken English and Spanish
- Strong translation skills with an emphasis on accuracy and cultural sensitivity
- Excellent written communication skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Current enrollment at the University of Houston-Downtown
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, completed coursework, or demonstrated experience in translation
- Strong academic standing
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with translation projects
- Experience with ArcGIS Story Maps
- Major or minor in Spanish, Translation Studies, Linguistics, or related fields
