JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) is seeking one undergraduate student at the University Park campus to serve as a BMB Student Assistant during summer 2024 New Student Orientation (NSO). Primary responsibilities will include assisting incoming first-year students with navigating the LionPATH and Starfish platforms, helping students enroll in summer and fall courses, providing instruction and guidance to incoming first-year students, greeting students when they arrive at the afternoon Eberly College of Science (ECoS) Advising Meeting, and assisting with creating NSO-related materials and documents.  The BMB Student Assistant will gain leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.

The BMB Student Assistant must be available for training days (May 16 & 17, 1:30 – 4:30 pm) and all NSO programs that will take place (May 21 – July 25 and August 20 – 22, 2024). The BMB Student Assistant will be scheduled to work certain days Monday through Friday during the hours of 1:45 pm - 5:00 pm, for a total of about 10-15 hours per week. There may be some optional opportunities to assist other units with NSO duties as well as help at Welcome Day on Sunday, August 25. Applicants should be at least a 2nd semester Penn State student in good academic standing. Preference will be given to those pursuing a major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or Microbiology (life science-related majors preferred but not required).
