Position Summary
Applications are invited for an entry level research assistant position within the Departments of Neurology and Radiology at Washington University in St. Louis. Research focuses on the application of functional MRI methods to neurodegenerative disease. The applicant will make use of established analytic software packages to prepare acquired data for analysis by research staff. Imaging data consists of structural and functional MRI.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze images from multiple modalities. Functions will include retrieving data from intranet repositories, organizing data for initial pre-processing, performing pre-processing and communicating results with researchers in the laboratory.
  • Use existing analytic software packages (e.g., Freesurfer and others) to prepare acquired data for analysis by the research staff of the laboratory.
  • Assist with manuscript and reporting as necessary.
  • Statistical computing of image analysis, neuropsychological assessments, demographics and other data to assist the laboratory team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or significant study in neurosciences, computer sciences, psychology, or other related fields.
  • Academic research experience and familiarity with neuroimaging.
  • Strong facility with statistical analyses.
  • Ability to develop and write new analytic software.
  • Competence in at least one programming language / environment (e.g., MATLAB, UNIX, R, Python, C [C++, C#]).
  • Experience with statistical computing (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS).
  • Experience with neuroimaging analysis platforms (e.g., FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI, SPM).
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical ability including effective skills in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, etc.).


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
  • Some college, some knowledge of scripting language and/or coding exposure.

Salary Range
$16.21 - $21.69 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
