Department Description

The Network Operations Center (NOC) is a unit of Enterprise Infrastructure Services within Information and Educational Technology (IET) and plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and availability of the organization’s IT infrastructure. Responsible for the management, engineering, maintenance and repair of voice, data, and IT related network services infrastructure for the UC Davis campus, the NOC staff provides technical support on a 24×7 on-call rotational basis.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor-Network Operations Center (NOC), this position assists senior analysts and engineers in troubleshooting network incidents, documenting processes, assisting with the implementation of network devices, acquiring and executing upon network best practices. Primary focus is to ensure reliable and high-performance wireless connectivity for users and devices in various environments in and around the UC Davis campus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Vacation is restricted during peak work periods.
  • Valid CA driver’s license required. Position will participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Pull Notice System.
  • Position may, at times, require employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present. This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
  • Adhere to workplace safety practices, read information communicated about workplace safety, complete required safety training on time, and report any workplace safety issues promptly to their supervisor or the designated safety coordinator.
  • UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  •           Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field.
  •           Experience with Wi-Fi equipment and technologies.
  •           Experience using interpersonal and written communication skills to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  •           Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, routing and switching.
  •           Knowledge of wireless networking concepts and protocols.
  •           Knowledge of wireless networking protocols and standards e.g 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred License/Certification:

  •           CompTIA Network+ certification
  •           Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  •           Certified Wireless Network Associate (CWNA)

Preferred Education/Experience:  

  •           Internship and/or coursework experience in networking and wireless technology.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  •           Basic knowledge of security protocols and best practices.
