Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
Reporting to the IT Operations Manager of the USC School of Medicine Greenville, the Network Administrator performs network changes, provides support and maintenance of complex network systems, maintains accurate records of maintenance, inventory, IP addressing, and VLAN assignments associated with Network infrastructure.
This position is responsible for analyzing and/or administering security controls for information systems. Safeguards the network against unauthorized infiltration, modification, destruction or disclosure. Researches, evaluates, tests, recommends, communicates and implements new security software or devices. Implements, enforces, communicates and develops security policies or plans for data, software applications, hardware, and telecommunications. Provides information to management regarding the negative impact on the business caused by potential breach, theft, destruction, alteration, denial of access to information, or other identified means.
The Network Administrator will work directly with the Offices in the Health sciences center, Office of Education, Assessment, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Finance and Academic affairs and will interface directly with Faculty and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology Systems or related field and 5 years related work experience or high school diploma and 9 years related work experience; or equivalency
Preferred Qualifications
VmWare Virtual Network design and implementation experience® Security administration experience or other technical skills
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrates thorough knowledge of Network Technologies such as Cisco NEXUS, Cisco Stackwise switches, Cisco ASA Firewall/VPN, BlueCat DHCP, Cisco UCS C Series, Cisco Unified Communications, VoIP Technologies, Voice Gateways, Packet Analysis and the ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using network protocol analyzers 
Understands and demonstrates advanced knowledge of traditional voice systems including, PBX, Key systems, PRI, T1, TIE line connectivity, LCR, 1FB, Analog, etc- Preferred: 
Experience with IT/AV installation, programming and system maintenance. 
Knowledge of Vmware virtual network. 
Knowledge of information technology equipment and procedures. 
Knowledge of production schedules and information technology uses. 
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with operators and end customers 
Ability to manage multiple complex projects 
Ability to develop and implement administrative policies and procedures and evaluate their effectiveness.

Network Management: 
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and solves minor to major Network issues from end users to the Internet Service Providers (ISP). Handles problems and requests within defined time limits. Is onsite during scheduled downtimes along with the rest of the Network infrastructure Team to assist in new implementations, upgrades or problem resolution. Proactively monitors network health 
Assists with unscheduled network outages. Utilizes network infrastructure monitoring tools to monitor utilization and troubleshoot network issues. 
Analyses, troubleshoots and corrects network problems remotely and on-site. 
Performs any network connectivity issues as needed. Independently manages medium to large network projects. Deploy and manage devices including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points. Communicate with network teams at Prisma Health, USC, and third parties to prevent or resolve any issues or conflicts

Network Security: 
Monitors computer networks for security threats or unauthorized users. 
Identifies compromised machines and reports on security measures taken to address threats. Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements security devices and software. 
Conducts regular security audits, prepares security status reports, educates users on computer security, creates security documentation for end-users and assists in disaster recovery emergencies. 
Enforces network security policy and complies with requirements of external security audits and recommendations. 
Manages anti-virus software deployment and settings (Palo Alto Cortex), Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) and controls access to the network and network resources. 
Ensures compliance with USC and USCSOMG policies and requirements. 
Designs, installs, and implements all layers of network infrastructures to include LAN’s, Wireless Access, wire, switches, routers, etc. for network servers and/or telecommunications networks. May design configurations for various computer systems. 
May serve as Team Lead on projects. 
Provides technical advice to senior level management concerning network systems and/or telecommunications networks.

Packages software installs and updates to be deployed to Windows PCs, Macs, and virtual servers 
Deploys updates to computers and servers on a monthly basis as required by USC security policy. 
 Mobile Device Management (MDM) : 
Creates and deploys profiles and settings to configure mobile devices 
Creates and deploy profiles to devices, maintain loaner device pool, prepare new devices for end users and troubleshoot issues related to MDM 
Provides end users support related to Hardware (Windows PCs, Macs, printers, phones, tablets), 
Software, Virtual desktops, Simulation iQ systems. 
Develops new solutions, such as iOS printing, assist with virtual desktop and server troubleshooting, level 1 classroom support for AV issues and other miscellaneous issues and projects
