Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P&HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.
Organizational Objective:
P&HCC staff members work with a student population that reflects the diversity of Virginia, with more than 40 percent of current students coming from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Knowledge and understanding of specific needs of under-served populations and a commitment to helping these individuals attain educational success are critical responsibilities of our institution.
Purpose of Position:

  • Teach Construction Skilled Trades

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teach construction trade courses including NCCER Introductory Craft Skills, HVAC,.
  • Plumbing, or Carpentry courses to Fast Forward students.
  • Classes are typically held in the evenings, for a period of 12 weeks.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment in classroom and labs.
  • Schedule NCCER testing online with the Career Center.
  • Perform and document students’ NCCER performance tests.
  • Document and report student grades and attendance.
  • Communicate with Fast Forward Coaches regarding student challenges.
Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • At least three years of work experience in area of expertise.
  • Must possess NCCER Master Training certification or be willing to obtain certification previous to course start.
  • Certificate, industry certification, or associate degree.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and experience in area of instruction.
  • Ensure that course equipment and materials are utilized to support course goals.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods to promote learning including online teaching platforms and video conferencing tools.
  • Ability to engage, teach, and communicate with a diverse population of students.
