Job Summary
The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is pleased to announce a cluster hiring initiative in Community Engaged Research. We are seeking four outstanding tenured and/or tenure-track faculty (open-rank) whose scholarship focuses on families and communities, culturally responsive pedagogy substance abuse, homelessness, housing, social mobility, and/or sustainability. The ideal candidate will advance learning and knowledge through research, teaching, service, and commercialization in disciplines in our College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs, College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, or School of Social Work.
The new faculty hires will bridge disciplines across the college/school and their departments, stimulating innovative research and teaching efforts. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
The appointments are expected to commence September 1, 2024, for the start of the Fall 2024 semester.
College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs: All areas of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture planning, and public affairs will be considered, with a particular interest in communities’ readiness for climate change and climate adaptation. Highest consideration will be given to applicants that have a demonstrated record of interdisciplinary research, scholarly achievements, and excellence with clear potential to develop a well-funded research program (or with an established program, for applicants at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level). College of Education: All areas of education will be considered. We are looking for a scholar with expertise in mental health and school counseling, juvenile justice education, family-school-community engagement/partnerships, educational policy and diversity in student homelessness, corrections education, education of incarcerated adults, social contexts of education, and/or culturally responsive pedagogy in alternative and urban school environments. We are seeking candidates with expertise in Community Engaged Research, as broadly described above, with a focus on research that spans families and communities, culturally responsive pedagogy in education, substance abuse, homelessness, housing, social mobility, and sustainability.

  • Center for Educational Research, Policy and Practice serves as a resource for research and collaboration among educators and leaders throughout Texas and the United States.
  • The Institute of Urban Studies (IUS) is a key research unit for the College of Architecture, Planning, and Public Affairs that has been actively conducting community engaged research since 1967. Its mandated mission is to conduct research and provide technical assistance to city and county governments, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations, and to offer education and teaching opportunities to individuals either already in or contemplating public service careers.
  • The Center for Transportation, Equity, Decisions, and Dollars (CTEDD) is a USDOT (Tier-1) University Transportation Center supported by the United States Department of Transportation. CTEDD is a University of Texas at Arlington-led partnership with the other universities, including California Polytechnic State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and University of South Florida.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be committed to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and will be expected to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, build and lead a team of student researchers, implement a program of externally funded research that yields top-tier publications, and contribute to professional service within UTA and the external community.
Required Qualifications
Minimum requirements for this position include: (1) a Ph.D. or equivalent in one of the disciplines noted above or a related discipline that clearly aligns with a focus on community-engaged research; (2) strong publication record or potential in field of expertise; (3) strong research program with existing external funding or potential for funding; and (4) commitment to quality teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
