Major Duties

Under the general supervision of the Director of University Communications, the Multimedia Producer is an important member of CSUN’s Strategic Communication and Brand Management multimedia team and is responsible for scripting and the planning and oversight of the team’s production slate. This is a cross-functional role that requires creativity, an advanced understanding of video story development, and solid experience in all stages of video production, from research to delivery.

  • Works closely with social media, photographers, writers, and partners from across campus as we seek to innovate, integrate, and expand our storytelling platforms.
  • Plans detailed schedules for all production phases from pre-production to post-production to delivery for multiple and concurrent projects.
  • Researches, develops and writes non-fiction scripts, which include the scripting of concepts that are made by request.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in job related field.
  • Equivalent to one (1) year of full-time experience in non-fiction scripting; scripting short videos; broadcast production; agency experience; and familiarity/experience with all phases of production. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Experience working in a small team with limited resources and ability to juggle multiple projects at once, is a plus.
  • Experience in higher education or the non-profit industry and working with interns, are highly desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of production techniques and equipment. General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional media. Working knowledge of tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques.
  • Ability to develop, create, stage and/ or produce professional quality visuals and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives. Strong writing skills including the ability to learn narration and continuity script writing. Strong research skills and broad knowledge of resources and techniques which communicate information through multimedia productions.
  • Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technology in order to use and troubleshoot equipment and systems. Strong organizational skills to independently manage and coordinate all facets of production, budgets and other projects. Solid to advanced photographic capabilities, as well as photographic processing and manipulation skills.
  • Ability to provide lead work and project direction to other staff. Ability to work with and train students involved in production projects. Flexibility, professionalism, problem solver, and a team player are key qualities for this position.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Media Production Specialist / 0810 / grade 2
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $3949 - $5880 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $3949- $7143 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (2 days in office, 3 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
