Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY, is currently recruiting a college intern to join the DNA Learning Center BioMedia Group. 
The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) is an educational unit of the renowned Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, which is ranked first in the world for impact in molecular biology and genetics. The DNALC offers programs and instructional materials in DNA science targeting several educational levels. The BioMedia Group supports the educational initiatives of the DNALC through development of content for educational and data analysis websites that include illustrations, animations, videos, and photos; printed manuals, brochures, signage, and advertising; email campaigns; and museum exhibitions. The team also maintains websites and collects visitation analytics.
The ideal candidate is progressing towards or holds a bachelor’s degree in web, graphic, or multimedia design or in a related field, and a portfolio of work demonstrating abilities and experience. This position demands a motivated, self-starter with excellent organizational and communication skills—plus the ability to work closely with others. 


Position Responsibilities

The Multimedia Design Intern will work part-time with a team of professionals in our BioMedia Group. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in several innovative, educational projects and could lead to a permanent position. The intern will have a flexible work environment with some in-person hours required in Cold Spring Harbor, and options to work at our NYC location in Brooklyn and remotely. 


Position Requirements

• Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, as well as XD; InDesign, and Premiere;
• front-end design, development, and maintenance of responsive websites;
• UI, UX Design (wireframes, mockups, and prototypes) and graphic production for mobile-first, cross-browser, and cross-platform deployment;
• HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap development—CSS grid layout and CSS Flexbox layout methods a plus;
• preparing assets for publication on social media, web, and email marketing;
• content management systems;
• graphic design and production of printed products; and
• basic videography, studio lighting, and video editing.
Not required, but an added plus:
• experience using Adobe Animate, including knowledge of ActionScript;
• knowledge of basic programming, such as JavaScript;
• experience designing and producing museum exhibitions; and
• interest in or comfort with communicating science.

Compensation and Benefits


Hourly rate: 17.50
