Position Summary/Description:
The Multicultural Health Program Therapist provides individual and group therapy and assessment; supervision and training of practicum students if appropriate; outreach programming; and crisis intervention, including daytime and evening/weekend on-call services. Case management for clients of concern, consultation with members of the University community and participation on counseling related campus committees is also expected. A primary focus of the position will be to serve underserved populations: Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Indigenous, LatinX and BIPOC students, providing mental health services, as well as delivering programming and outreach. UNC Counseling and Psychological Services is committed to supporting this position with opportunities to foster Departmental and Campus-wide partnerships to build community and to develop innovative and creative approaches to best support the well-being of underserved students. The Counseling and Psychological Services therapist is administratively responsible through the Associate Director of Clinical Services to the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services. They are a professional licensed or license eligible to practice social work or equivalent degree in the State of North Carolina.
Education and Experience:
Experience with trauma-informed therapy approach. Bilingual Spanish-speaking preferred.
Essential Skills:
Board eligibility for licensure by the North Carolina Board of Social Work or equivalent licensure board. Full
licensure is expected. Employees who have just completed their training will be given adequate time to prepare and achieve licensure. Current knowledge in depth of their field and its standards of practice; commitment to the practice of quality mental health services including a commitment to human value in that practice; special interest in the University setting and the processes of maturation which occur during college years, undergraduate and graduate; ability to work with other professional staff and support staff to produce integrated professional services; understanding of issues of diversity with demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and pluralism among students and staff; ability to utilize technology in the delivery of student programs.
