Department Summary

The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is an ambitious initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation, and the world. The Knight Campus Communications Office develops and implements the overall marketing and communication strategy for all units and programs within the Knight Campus — actively managing and directing websites and affiliated digital and social media channels. The office plans, creates, produces, and distributes annual reports, presentations, newsletters, brochures, blogs, advertisements, photos, videos, email campaigns, recruitment collateral, news releases, announcements, stories, and profiles. The team elevates the local relevance, national competitiveness, and global recognition of the Knight Campus and develops and administers the campus' brand identity standards in accordance with the university's overall marketing strategy and identity standards.


Position Summary

Reporting to the Knight Campus Director of Communications, the Multi-Media Coordinator (coordinator) serves as the primary coordinator, producer, and strategist for Knight Campus social media channels and websites. In collaboration with members of the Knight Campus Communications team, the coordinator will provide consultation and resource coordination of Knight Campus and sub-unit websites and accounts. This includes serving as the point person for social media channels, managing creative projects, writing copy, creating visual and video content, tracking analytics and engagement, maintaining visual identity and branding, and contributing to strategic planning. This position requires proactive communication skills, creative content production skills, independent judgment, experience working in a fast-paced team environment, and the ability to make content recommendations to engage primary audiences. The specialist will commit to upholding and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and work closely with team members to align social media, web content, digital media, and other communications efforts with Knight Campus's mission, vision, goals, and priorities.


Minimum Requirements

• Three years experience in gathering information, writing/producing materials, presenting information to the public and public relations. One year of this experience must have included responsibility for press releases and interaction with the news media.
• A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a closely-related field may substitute for up to two years of the general experience.

• Ability to be effective in an interdisciplinary team environment and with a variety of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Ability to meet deadlines, proactively anticipate needs, manage and prioritize multiple tasks or projects, and work independently without supervision, while handling frequent interruptions and shifting priorities to ensure the success of projects and regular workflow.
• Competency with standard communication software including Word, PPT, and website content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
• Working experience with email marketing campaigns on platforms such as MyEmma or MailChimp.
• Ability to synthesize complex information into effective written communications
• Ability to manage conflict and to use sound judgment and initiative, particularly as it relates to handling sensitive information, and escalate appropriately if needed for further resolution.
• Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and inclusion in the workplace and through communication materials.


Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience working in content management systems (Drupal, WordPress).
• Experience in social media campaigns/marketing.
• Experience in directing photo/video shoots.
• Project management experience.
• Experience as a communications/graphic designer for scientific, medical or engineering entity.
