    Position description

The Magnetic Resonance Research Laboratories (MRRL) in the Department of Radiological Sciences at UCLA has an immediate opening for a Project Scientist. The candidate will work under the supervision of principal investigators in the UCLA MRRL to develop, lead, and support research projects, including quantitative body and cancer MRI, MR spectroscopy, cardiovascular MRI, MRI-guided interventions, and/or artificial intelligence for MRI. It is expected that the candidate will primarily support two principal investigators in the UCLA MRRL; the specific arrangement will be determined based on the research interests of the candidate and the principal investigators. Research projects will engage with interdisciplinary teams and span medical imaging theory, computational modeling, image acquisition and reconstruction, image processing, quantitative image analysis, pre-clinical investigation, and clinical translation and evaluation. The candidate will also be expected to provide a baseline level of support to establish and maintain research infrastructure, develop and implement best practices, manage and coordinate experiments, supervise doctoral and postdoctoral trainees, author scientific publications, and develop the scientific components of grant applications.

Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Lead research projects and support collaborative projects in the UCLA MRRL under the supervision of two primary principal investigators.
    • Collaborate with a diverse team of investigators and trainees to advance the research projects in the UCLA MRRL.
    • Design, implement, and test novel MRI pulse sequences for research and clinical translation.
    • Design, implement, and test novel imaging protocols and image processing/analysis methods for research studies.
    • Author scientific publications and grant proposals.
    • Complete and maintain up-to-date training for laboratory safety, animal research, biological specimen research, and/or human subject research in accordance with UCLA guidelines.
    • Establish and maintain research infrastructure, such as computer systems, storage devices, and software environments.
    • Develop and update standard operating procedures and best practices for research projects.
    • Supervise doctoral and postdoctoral trainees and staff members in the MRRL.
    • Train and mentor MRRL members in MR physics concepts and data analysis.
    • Support and participate in the MRRL educational programs.
    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and complete scientific/technical reports and presentations.
