MRI Technologist (Contractual C1/Part-Time) - (230000FB)
  
University of Maryland, Baltimore is currently seeking a part-time, contractual  Magnetic Resonance Imaging MRI Technologist to support clinical and research operations in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. This position is responsible for ensuring design, development, documentation and implementation of research and clinical procedures and protocols involving MRI and MRI/PET using a variety of complex activities. Contribute towards creation of new program(s) or expansion of existing imaging research program(s).
Flexibility in work schedule including working on some weekends with appropriate time off during weekdays.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Independently perform magnetic resonance relative clinical/research activities including data acquisition, archiving and data analysis. Develop appropriate QA/QC methods.  Assist in the development and execution of clinical and research studies for MRI and MRI/PET, including screening of subjects.

  • Work with the Lead imaging specialist and the manager to develop, recommend, modify and implement policies and procedures and/or methods for clinical and laboratory research. Develop protocol manuals and data collection instructions. Identify and address issues and deficiencies and implement effective solutions.  Assist with developing policies, procedures, and/or methods for clinical research and laboratory experimentation to meet changing needs and requirements and enforce standards.

  • Perform clinical and research activities including data collection, data entry, data verification, data analysis, compliance and clinical relevance of data.

  • Perform administrative duties such as providing training and guidance to students and other clinical staff. Participate in the design of research and clinical studies.

  • Ensures that quality assurance/quality control and safety compliance aspects are strictly adhered to within the MRI environment to enable both preclinical, clinical, and human research.
 

Qualifications

  
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's degree radiology technology and MRI certification accredited program.

  • Four (4) years of MRI experience in related clinical research

  • Certified MRI Registered Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and
    State of Maryland licensed Radiographer.


  • May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.

Preferred: 

  • Magnetic resonance related clinical/research experience

  • MR registry

  • Prior training related to occupational safety and health, infection control, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation.

 
* Bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field with at least 18 credits in a field related to the research of the clinic, or Bachelor’s degree in unrelated field with at least one year of experience in a field directly related to the research of the clinic.  Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and skill in the application of assurance compliance issues related to all clinical and laboratory activities that include both human and preclinical research.

  • Knowledge of MRI related clinical and research techniques.

  • Comprehensive understanding and utilization of scientific and technical language and symbols.

  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both verbal and written communications.

  • Ability to develop a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.

  • Ability to network with, and present information to key groups and individuals including the Director of the center and several Principal Investigators.

  • Ability to use a consultative approach to resolve issues in area of responsibility.

  • Ability to participate in the design of research studies and assist in the preparation of technical procedures and reports.

  • Ability to perform venipuncture for contrast related imaging studies.
