Position Summary
Molecular Laboratory Technologist to implement Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) compliant standard operating procedures, tests and methods in the Nebraska Public Health Laboratory (NPHL). Performs testing and analysis of clinical specimens, utilizing diagnostic methods, e.g. PCR and WGS in molecular microbiology. Responsible for the proper operation of equipment and resources in relationship to testing platforms utilized and for the collection, analysis, review and reporting of findings.

Biology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology, or other laboratory related science field. 
 
(Will accept a Bachelor’s of General Studies and a minimum of three years molecular biology experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting)

Required Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Skilled in research methodology and techniques. 
2. Ability to analyze, document and interpret scientific and statistical data. 
3. Ability to coordinate research activities. 
4. Effective communication skills, initiative, teamwork and flexibility. 
5. Individual must be able to pass an N95 fit test or be medically cleared to wear a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR).
Preferred Education: Master's degree or equivalent

Preferred Experience:
More than two years progressive experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting with some experience in molecular biology.

Preferred Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Ability to establish testing priorities and ensure efficient use of time and resources. 
2. Able to exercise independent judgment to resolve problems, and reports accordingly. 
3. Knowledge of whole genome sequencing and current clinical microbiologic practices. 
4. Experience in molecular biology relating to PCR and/or WGS.
