Description of Work
Supervise/Manage Microbiology Teaching Labs for which there is an expected student population of 800+. Supervise, support, train and assist all Teaching Assistants and Prep Staff. Review weekly evaluations submitted by all Interns and Teaching Assistants. Oversee TA office hours during which there is considerable student interaction and study. Assist TAs in proctoring weekly quizzes/Practical tests. Oversee TA meetings.
Ensure that all laboratory sections are ready to be taught each week and that they run smoothly. Monitor and set up laboratory demonstrations and prepare materials for labs on a daily/weekly basis.
Maintain chemical inventory in accordance with EHS. Order chemicals, equipment and supplies and maintain equipment in the laboratories. Enforce safety practices, assure safe laboratories and ensure that all teaching assistants are in compliance with yearly safety training. Supervise the general upkeep and maintenance of the classrooms, prep area and storage areas. Adhere to compliance with IACUC if needed.
Write weekly student laboratory assessments. Counsel and motivate students and TAs. Handle student absences and all student make-ups in accordance with lab policy.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field of study in which general biology course work has been successfully completed is required. Two years of lab experience are essential. Proficiency using Microsoft Office software and using scientific equipment necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer experience teaching or working in course laboratories; and knowledge of safety regulations pertaining to laboratories. Organizational skill and the ability to advise and motivate a large, diverse group of individuals are desirable.
