Cornell University’s Statler Hotel has launched a search for a Supervisor to join our Meetings & Events Team. This is a great opportunity for someone who is currently working in banquet or catering operations and would like to take the first step advancing toward a career in hospitality management. A Meetings & Events Supervisor will lead teams of professional staff and bright, young, talented college students who are eager to learn and be inspired to work together to deliver a WOW to guests throughout their attendance at high-profile events such as professional conferences, recruitment events, cocktail receptions, and at glorious wedding celebrations in our beautiful ballroom.

   

The Meetings & Events Supervisor Opportunity:

As a Supervisor on our Meetings & Events Team, you will help to flawlessly set up and execute our many special events while delivering outstanding personalized service.

Among your duties, you will:

  • Assist in the execution and oversight for a wide range of events including social gatherings such as weddings, graduation parties, holiday parties and galas, as well as meetings, conferences, job fairs, recruiter events, and Cornell academic business. This role will work closely with other departments of the hotel, primarily sales and culinary to ensure successful event execution.
  • Supervise staff throughout the event process, ensuring adherence to banquet event orders, checking in with clients and addressing any requests, questions or concerns. Additionally, this role will supervise safe and professional alcohol service, assist with the set-up of AV, and provide client support with in-house AV and technology.
  • Support all aspects of running a large department handling high volumes of high-end business. Specific tasks may include but are not limited to; ordering, inventory, requesting maintenance and/or deep cleaning for event spaces, fulfilling unique client requests, setting up and maintaining audio visual equipment, completing shift reports, generating bills, supervise cash handling procedures for each event, creating signage, creating and confirming diagrams. 

What we are looking for in a Meetings & Events Supervisor:

We are seeking candidates who have the right combination of college education, food & beverage experience, and job skills to be an effective supervisor in a busy, upscale catering and conference operation. 

  • Associates Degree and 1-3 years of relative experience in banquets, catering and/or meeting and events execution or management.
  • Must be driven and energetic with excellent customer service, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Professional demeanor fitting of a high end, four-diamond property.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to coach, mentor, and train students as well as other inexperienced staff.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve guest problems quickly and calmly.
