American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification must be obtained within 6 months from date of hire
Physical Requirements
This position will require the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time as well occasionally standing or walking with objects up to 10 pounds and push/pull objects over 50 pounds. Sitting at computer workstations for extended periods, along with repetitive motion.
Shift
Three 12-hr shifts per week with rotating weekends & holidays
Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Certified will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory testing in a fast-paced academic medical center. The Laboratory provides services to all aspects of this Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including solid organ and bone marrow transplant, KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.
This position will be instrumental in maintaining a quality of service based on accuracy and timely result reporting. This position will be located in the Core Lab, and testing will include, but is not limited to, blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis. The Core Lab has multiple testing sites within the organization: Chandler, Good Samaritan, ED Satellite and Markey Satellite.
The CAP-Accredited Laboratory at the University of Kentucky showcases the use of state-of-the-art instrumentation and technology. In addition, this diverse department provides services to all aspects of the University of Kentucky’s Level I trauma center and throughout the healthcare enterprise, including KY Children’s Hospital, and Markey Cancer Center.

The starting pay for this position was recently adjusted with the minimum hourly rate set at $27.00/hour. All pay rates will be based on candidate’s experience.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Exceptional customer service, excellent technical & troubleshooting skills, detail oriented, and collaboration skills with different positions across the organization. Other skills include Microsoft Office knowledge & proficient writing ability, hospital electronic systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and ability to work independently as well as being team oriented.
