Position Summary
The Institute for Informatics is part of the Office of Health Information and Data Science (OHIDS). OHIDS includes the Institute for Informatics, the Division of Biostatistics, and Becker Medical Library. This represents an alignment of critical units across the School of Medicine. The Institute for Informatics provides infrastructure, core technology resources, and tools to enhance clinical and basic sciences and promote research excellence. This position will primarily support the platform REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture - a web-based HIPAA-compliant data collection software used by investigators when collecting research data that includes protected health information (PHI)). This person will also assist in supporting other platforms used for Research. This person will be responsible for tasks related to REDCap use (e.g., managing upgrades, communicating new features, and assisting with managing REDCap 21 CFR Part 11 Compliance) and working with users to ensure the creation of quality data collection tools that adhere to best practices. This person will work directly with IT specialists, biostatisticians, project coordinators, and other users of REDCap. In addition, the person will contribute to team projects that may involve custom programming, training and presentations, and research.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and/or evaluate health information technology applications, tools, processes, or structures to assist clinical and research faculty and staff with data collection/extraction.
  • Develop strategies, policies, or procedures for introducing, evaluating, or modifying information technology applied to clinical practice, education, administration, or research.
  • Manage platform upgrades with the technical team, communicate new features to end users, and facilitate testing within and across platforms.
  • Ensuring platforms comply with HIPAA security guidelines and good clinical practice.  Facilitate defining and documenting validation and testing for REDCap 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
  • Support end users to ensure proper training and communication to encourage good clinical practice in data capture, security, and integrity. Assist with developing and reviewing policy, procedure, and security documents.
  • Act as a “translator” between technical staff (Database Administrators, software developers, system administrators, etc.) and end users when necessary.
  • Participate and represent the Washington University School of Medicine in the REDCap Consortium. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in applied research, statistics, health informatics, or related clinical field.
  • Healthcare and research experience.
  • Two years of experience with REDCap or equivalent research design or database management experience.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Passion for improving research and clinical decision-making and enhanced health care delivery.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three or more years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects related to clinical decision support, medical terminologies, health information systems, or health-related applications.

Salary Range
$64,700.00 - $110,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
