Medical Director/Anesthesiologist (Open Rank)

The Department of Anesthesiology at the Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking an experienced academic anesthesiologist for a faculty position to serve as Medical Director who is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day management of the UT Health San Antonio Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MSRH). We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate individual committed to patient care to join a dynamic anesthesia team based in a multispecialty hospital, Monday through Friday. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization and partner with healthcare leadership and ancillary departments. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Daily staffing and management of assignments for physicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs).
  • Work with departmental revenue cycle leadership to optimize revenue capture.
  • Foster collaboration between the Department of Anesthesiology and UT Health Physicians (UTHP) surgical departments for the continual improvement of the clinical operations, growth and patient experience within the ambulatory surgery centers.
  • Develop a patient safety and quality improvement strategy for the MSRH Operating Rooms.
  • Development of surgical block time schedules in collaboration with UT Leadership.
  • As needed, recruitment of physician and CRNA providers in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesiology.
  • Generation/coordination of anesthesia staffing schedules to meet the operational needs of MSRH.
  • Application/Development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for anesthesia services at MSRH in the areas of efficiency, compliance, outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
  • Oversee and direct patient care provided by CRNAs or resident physicians.
  • Pursue scholarly activity sufficient to stay abreast of new technology and medical advances in ambulatory anesthesiology.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD, DO or Foreign Equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 or more years of supervisory/leadership experience in healthcare, preferably in hospital-based physician services
  • 48 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training, or
  • 12 months of Preliminary Residency Training and 36 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training
  • Texas Medical License or eligible to obtain licensure
  • Board Certification or board eligible in Anesthesiology
  • Valid DEA Registration Number (Controlled Substance Registration Certificate)
  • ACLS certified or obtaining certification
