The Mechanical Specialist CL3 maintains, repairs, and improves the physical plant of the Darling Marine Center, including buildings, support systems, safety systems, seawater pumping systems, storm response, and grounds. Some of the duties & responsibilities include performing work requests for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction and related operations. Completes preventative maintenance, building, and safety inspections as needed. Maintains university vehicles, roads, paths/walkways, and porches/steps. Assists with seasonal grounds work and snow removal. Assists with hazardous waste storage. Occasionally responds to alarms or repair calls or checks on the facility after hours or on weekends as needed. Serves as the backup to the Facilities Manager. The position will be located at the Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine. Full-time, 40 hours per week, 5 days a week. Finalist will have an option for work hours of Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasionally responds to alarms or repair calls or checks on the facility after hours or on weekends as needed.? Starting pay for this position is $23.92.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs work requests & repairs for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, construction, and related operations
  • Completes preventative maintenance as needed
  • Maintains seawater system
  • Supports domestic water system
  • Performs periodic fuel and safety inspections
  • Performs building inspection and repairs as needed
  • Maintains vehicles
  • Maintains roads and paths and performs seasonal grounds work
  • Manages hazardous waste storage
  • Transports, loads, and unloads equipment with a forklift
  • Completes weekly recycling
  • Manages pest control
  • Supports event preparation and cleanup
  • Supports telecommunications infrastructure
  • Checks facilities as needed during evenings and weekends, manages and participates in snow removal and storm response, responds to alarms and equipment failures
  • Serves as backup to the Facility Manager
  • Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned

Required

  • Generally has the education associated with a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and four years of related experience.
  • Expertise in plumbing, electrical, construction, vehicle, and HVAC trades
  • Competence in safety and hazardous waste management
  • Experience in storm response and grounds management
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to operate a forklift and similar equipment

Preferred

  • Experience with academic operations
  • Experience with scientific equipment maintenance and repair
