The Mechanical Engineering (MENG) Program at the University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL) invites applications for a visiting faculty position at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor level to start in Fall 2024. The position is in the general area of Mechanical Systems with primary expertise in Mechanics (Statics, Dynamics, Solid Mechanics and Control of Mechanical Systems) and CAD/Graphics. The rank will be determined based upon overall qualifications. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the sustained growth of the MENG program, teach undergraduate MENG courses, and provide service to the program, university and profession; including active support of the MENG program ABET accreditation efforts. 

Duties:

• Teach lower-level ENGR and MENG rubric lecture and laboratory courses as assigned. Other introductory courses, such as Introduction to Engineering, might be assigned as well.

• Teach upper-level MENG rubric lecture and laboratory courses within their domain of expertise as assigned. 

• Perform research activities within their domain of expertise that complement and/or support the existing research efforts of current mechanical engineering faculty members. 

• Actively support the ABET program assessment processes and preparations for the upcoming ABET reaccreditation visit and perform related duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

 

Required: 

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Mechanics or Materials specialization. Candidates with a terminal degree in a closely related discipline, such as Aerospace Engineering, with similar primary expertise and at least one degree in Mechanical Engineering will be considered.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, or in Engineering Education with both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited Mechanical Engineering program.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Professional registration, or practical experience with industry or government.
  • Demonstrated record of undergraduate teaching excellence.
