Job Description:

Summary
Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) at Iowa State University is seeking to hire a Mechanical Utilities Distribution Engineer. The position responsibilities include the following: provide engineering leadership for the campus steam distribution, chilled water, natural gas, domestic water, and sewer systems; coordinate operation, maintenance, and expansion of existing utility distribution systems; develop standard operating procedures and standards for the safe and reliable operation of the campus mechanical distribution systems.

Duties will include:

  • analyzing and troubleshooting utility systems and equipment
  • budgeting, planning, and managing utility projects; coordinating engineering tasks with other engineers and utility operations staff
  • working with design professionals and construction contractors
  • being a technical resource to FP&M and campus

In addition, this position will be responsible for documenting distribution systems and design standards, supporting of mechanical distribution personnel, and performing water quality reports and other regulatory compliance tasks.

The successful candidate will possess strong communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills; and the ability to organize and coordinate work within and between projects. They must have the ability to understand complex utility systems and equipment.

While this position is based on the Ames campus, it requires some off-campus travel to visit all areas with utility distribution systems. Candidate must be able to be approved to drive an ISU owned vehicle.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
