Master's Level Student Therapist Practicum – UVU Community Mental Health Clinic

Position Announcement

The UVU Community Mental Health Clinic is in need of Master’s level student therapists to see clients in the clinic as part of their practicum experience. Student therapists are expected to provide direct and indirect clinical services, develop, implement, and supervise client treatment planning, and perform individual, group, and family psychotherapy and behavior management. Student therapists will be expected to manage a personal case load and maintain and comply with case documentation. Students must be enrolled in one of UVU’s Master’s level clinical mental health programs (i.e., Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Clinical Mental Health Counseling). 


Summary of Responsibilities

  • Provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and families and manage a personal client case load.
  • Record prompt and proper documentation of clinical sessions, missed sessions, phone outreach, etc.
  • Participate in weekly supervision as required by your clinical program.
  • Perform intake assessments, gathers biopsychosocial histories, and provide client diagnoses using DSM V standards.
  • Conduct discharge planning, screen outpatient and aftercare programs to ensure continuity of patient care, and re-establish UVU Community Clinic services as applicable.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Student therapists must be enrolled in their second year of the UVU Master’s MFT program and meet the basic qualifications for good standing within the program.


Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of psychological theories, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the therapeutic professions.
  • Knowledge of essential principles of psychology, human behavior, counseling and psychotherapy. 
  • Knowledge of individual, group, and crisis intervention counseling techniques.
  • Knowledge of treatment planning and implementation.
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources.
  • Knowledge of mental health diagnosis based on DSM-V.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy laws.

Skills    
  • Skills in computer and software applications and confidential record keeping.
  • Skills in treatment planning and providing effective mental health treatment. 
  • Skills in documenting treatment progress of clients. 
  • Skills in the diagnosis of psychological disorders based on the DSM-V.
  • Skills in interpersonal communications and building rapport.

Abilities    
  • Ability to perform under adverse crisis situations or conflict.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to diagnose psychological disorders based on the DSM-V. 
  • Ability to keep accurate, timely, and precise treatment records. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively. 
  • Ability to be compliant with HIPAA privacy laws. 
  • Ability to be compliant with ethical standards established within the therapeutic professions.
