Job Description

Performs work involving the repair and restoration of single and multistory structures by removing and replacing damaged or weathered brick, block, stone, mortar, or caulking, by sandblasting surfaces and applying weather resistant sealants. Also, lays brick, block, and stone as well as uses carpentry and shop skills. Performs tasks requiring good organizational skills.

Duties

  • Removes brick, stone, mortar, and caulking and replaces with materials of appropriate colors, shades, and textures.
  • Sandblasts surfaces and applies weather resistant sealants.
  • Lays brick, blocks, and stone and sets ceramic and quarry tile.
  • Applies plaster and finishes concrete.
  • Performs necessary related carpentry work such as building forms, supports, scaffolding, and other wood structures.
  • Performs general shop work as weather and schedules dictate.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Job Requirements

Required Education: Required: High School diploma or GED, AND

  • 42 months masonry work with emphasis in tuckpointing

Skills:

  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
  • Uses tools or equipment with expertise acquired through extensive experience and/or specialized training

Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License

Working Conditions: 

  • Physical: Climbing ladders and stairs.  Holding heavy equipment.  Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling.  Working with arms extended above head.  Frequent lifting and carrying loads in excess of 100 pounds, up or down stairs.  Cleaning work areas.  Repetitive wrist and arm movement Perform duties using scaffolds.
  • Environmental: Exposure to extreme weather conditions.  Exposure to dust and other airborne particles.  Regular exposure to irritating noises and safety hazards.  May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures.  May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies.
