Come join the team at the University Center as the Marketing Director.  Working under the direction of the University Center Director, the Marketing Director directs the marketing and brand of the University Center (UC), which includes oversight of communications, marketing, social media, web design and management, photographing events and the facility, signage and graphic design. As the Marketing Director you will demonstrate the competencies and skill sets associated with the principles of marketing, advertising, public relations and communication.

Leadership is expected to be performed with substantial independence and decision-making authority to engage strategic partners, develop vision for student and patron engagement and supervise the staff and students. The Marketing Director excels, at project management, balancing multiple projects at once and managing detailed timelines, understand and align marketing with the student mindset, and must be able to work as an integral cross functional University Center and campus team member.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Plan, organize and direct communications for the University Center
  • Write and create content providing information central to the University Center’s mission and services
  • Manage layouts and designs of event materials and brochures
  • Manage the UC’s online presence and provide website maintenance and design
  • Maintain UC social media channels and use data analytics to drive engagement
  • Serve on university and marketing committees and task forces
  • Lead the Marketing Minds Collective in the division of Student Success and Campus Life
  • Creation of promotion and marketing plans, media or advertising, establishing and managing budgets, managing scheduling and creation of digital and visual materials
  • Manage communication to UM students via the “Student Weekly”
  • Work closely with the UC Director and Vice Provost of Student Success and Campus Life to develop strategies for communications and outreach, on special projects, initiatives and duties as assigned to current and perspective donors, sponsors and community partners of programs and services
  • Supervise classified staff and student employees

Position Details
  • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, MUS Contract Professional and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
  • Work hours may vary according to need.  Evening and/or weekend work is not routine, but some may be required on occasion.
  • Salary is $58,000per year.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, mass communication, creative writing, or graphic design and at least three to five (3-5) years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of website architecture, production and best practices with the ability to navigate and utilize web applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and professional experience in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, develop, schedule, and deploy digital content for the social media channels
  • Demonstrated proficiency with written and verbal communication, social media content development, and analytics reporting.
  • Ability to work with students both as employees and guests
  • Ability to provide students guidance in a learning environment on best practices when using social media.
  • Ability to represent the UC and the University of Montana at various events on and off campus
  • Demonstrated knowledge in message development, writing, and disseminating press releases
  • Demonstrated interpersonal, public relations and communication skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and maintain good communication and relationships with various stakeholders and internal customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear lines of communication with students, campus departments, outside agencies, businesses and the public.
  • Ability to ensure that design and technology applications comply with institutional deign and Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Ability to identify primary markets and develop and use effective promotions, communications and informational pieces in a variety of media and formats
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of creative marketing communication, material, and campaigns, with preference given to working with a young adult population
  • Ability to supervise multiple projects, establishing production schedules, setting priorities, managing deadlines, and assigning various tasks
  • Ability to use basic accounting principles to develop and/or maintain program budget
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in higher education setting and experience in reaching a student target audience
