Position Focus:

The Yale Program on Stakeholder Innovation and Management's mission is to develop new thinking that helps leaders become experts in creating long-term value for the stakeholders who matter to the success of their organizations.

Program does this by supporting relevant academic research into how businesses manage and engage stakeholders. Developing a robust set of case studies to be used in business classes around the world. Infusing principles of stakeholder innovation and management into education for students, executives, and entrepreneurs. Convening faculty, students, and leaders from all sectors to advance how business leaders can improve practice and increase the long-term value of their enterprises.

Reporting to Co-Faculty Leader, the Managing Director collaborates closely with Faculty leaders, Practice Lead, Advisory Board, staff & faculty fellows to craft and execute a dynamic strategy aimed at propelling Y-SIM's impact during its next phase of growth.

As the Managing Director of Y-SIM, work with the Faculty and Practice Leads to foster alignment among the co-faculty leaders, practice leader and the Advisory Board regarding vision and mission, ensuring it is transformative, distinctive, and adaptable to evolving landscapes. Long-term objectives and short-term goals, guiding prioritization of actions and establishing a robust system for monitoring and reporting progress. Create a stable financial plan to support the program's sustainability, balancing both individual donations and corporate giving. Define and allocate the resources needed to realize program objectives.

Work with co-faculty and practice leaders to identify key questions from the business environment to help guide research strategy and priorities. Collaborate with faculty and Y-SIM Research Lead to regularly review academic research findings and discuss themes. Design strategies for integration into labs and workshops.  

Develop the architecture/framework of resources necessary for companies to implement stakeholder innovation and management. Innovate tools drawing from various disciplines (e.g., design thinking, operations research) and technologies (e.g. AI) by convening thought leaders across disciplines and through the delivery of labs/workshops with affiliate partners.

Promote the utilization of these tools and practices by outlining a portfolio of partnership opportunities and collaborating with external business leaders and entrepreneurs. Assist in developing and delivering learning opportunities within and beyond Yale, such as through Yale executive education, company presentations and Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM).

Enhance value for all Y-SIM stakeholders, including co-faculty and practice leaders, fellows, the Board, staff, and participating companies, proactively seeking understanding of their interests, expectations, and needs. Establish a deliberate engagement system. Establish Y-SIM as a visible program that is accretive to Yale School of Management by providing strategic guidance on marketing initiatives and channels such as the website, podcasts, social media.

Lead the collaboration between Y-SIM and SOM Communications across all media, leading and supporting speaking engagements and briefings in alignment with the overall Yale School of Management identity.
The following essential duties are generic in nature; the information contained in Position Focus is most relevant to the position.


Essential Duties

Project Leadership: Align with partners and faculty on shared goals, objectives, and timelines for each project. Work with faculty leads and corporate partners to scope projects and draft proposals. Manage all operational aspects of marketing projects, including management of work streams by phase or experiment. Lead both informal and formal debriefings with corporate partners for each project phase. Develop a more robust internal and external feedback system with partners, faculty, and staff. Work with partners to ensure insights are being actioned within the organization. Develop a way to track insights implementation, and lead creatively across organizations to address any roadblocks. Partner Relationship & Experience Management: Deliver a high-touch, professional experience for the partners engaged in projects with the Center. Identify new ways to articulate and enhance the value that YCCI can bring to the organization including, e.g., identifying new opportunities to action insights or ways to deepen engagement with the YCCI or Yale SOM overall. Develop an engagement strategy for corporate partners to enhance the impact of projects and help translate the learnings within the corporation. Work with the Faculty Director and Executive Director(s) to manage the YCCI advisory board and participate in the planning and execution of the annual board meeting and board communication. Marketing and Development: Identify and cultivate new strategic partners for the YCCI who are: intellectually curious to advance knowledge on customers, committed to building long-term collaborative relationships, and will benefit from the Center’s expertise in behavioral science and customer analytics. Lead the development of a strategic communication plan targeting new affiliate partners. Develop or expand new programs as needed on the Center’s IP to deepen engagement with existing and new corporate partners.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and seven years of related work experience in a related field, such as Insights, Marketing Management or Consulting or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to react and adapt to ambiguous and changing situations. 


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

MBA or Master’s Degree in a related field and 10+ years of corporate experience.
