Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Vice President for Facilities and Economic Development, the Manager of Economic Development Initiatives will be responsible for the development and strategic growth of the Economic Development team, including assistance in developing UT Dallas strategic property. The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance in support of economic development initiatives aimed at attracting, retaining, and assisting businesses as they expand into the region.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Planning, or a related field. Five years of increasingly responsible experience in economic development, community development, and/or diversification, human resource management, government relations, or a closely related field.
Preferred Education and Experience
• Master’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Planning, or a related field.
• Eight years of increasingly responsible experience in economic development, community development, and/or diversification, human resource management, government relations, or a closely related field.
• Four years of management/ supervisory experience.
• Skilled in delivering presentations, organization and time management, computers and applicable software, customer service, event coordination, research and analysis, and strategic thinking.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, negotiate agreements, evaluate programs and recommend actions, read and comprehend legal documents, development agreements and contracts, draft and implement policies, establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to oversee, review and comprehend the data collection and analysis of economic development data as reviewed through systems including R, Stata, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, Alteryx, and others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop relationships, provide guidance, and influence the economic impact of The University of Texas at Dallas on the regional economy.
• Oversee the securing, processing and presentation of relevant research information related to university, business, market and economic indicators/trends in the North Texas region.
• Identify opportunities to further the University’s economic development efforts in the region.
• Collaborate with university officials, businesses, and institutions to support the university’s mission and goals in the area of economic development programs.
• Develop and implement economic development principles and best practices, revitalization and redevelopment programs, research methods, clear and concise report preparation, program development, market standards, reporting cycles, and best practices associated with higher education research and reporting.
• Manage internal data associated with economic development initiatives within the organization.
• Collaborate with partners including, but not limited to, developers, private and non-profit entities, and University officials to solicit funding sources, tax exemption programs, business recruitment, retention, and expansion opportunities and obtain overall support and commitment for development and investment projects.
• Research, review, identify and recommend successful economic development strategies.
• Identify and facilitate the establishment of potential partnerships among employment and training organizations, educational institutions, businesses, community organizations, and economic development agencies to address a variety of labor force issues.
• Negotiate and prepare RFPs or contracts with external professional service providers and vendors; monitors work progress; and ensures adherence to project schedules and budgets.
• Leverage sound principles of project management to manage special projects, including, but not limited to, research of new initiatives and services, budget preparation and analysis.
• Prepare evaluations of research and presents reports detailing findings and recommendations.
• Supervise and support staff.
• Participate in the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service.
