Job Description Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Identify, analyze, and implement energy conservation methods and procedures to reduce campus energy costs and maintenance costs of mechanical and electrical equipment. Monitor and analyze all utility consumption and bills and forecasts for budget input. Develop and implement energy conservation programs and/or projects. Represent the College for all energy conservation related business.
Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and analyze energy usage data and identify energy savings opportunities. Make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operation of the university’s buildings. Participate in the development of the University’s Energy Master Plan and plan to meet regulatory carbon reduction limits.
Develop building energy design guidelines in coordination with the University’s Energy Master Plan and various university offices involved with design, construction, renovation, sustainability and maintenance of buildings.
Record, analyze, and monitor all utility cost and consumption of University owned properties. Coordinate with utility companies on behalf of the University.
Seek funding sources, grants, rebates, etc. and prepare and oversee payback studies related to energy conservation.
Consult with URI Offices related to planning, construction, and building maintenance and review building condition studies to prioritize HVAC equipment replacement based to energy use, savings, condition, age, and operational history.
Develop and implement energy conservation projects and/or programs including alternative energy solutions. Prepare cost avoidance, cost payback, and technical reports related to energy management. Initiate and supervise engineering consulting studies and contracts for the installation of energy management systems.
Review design or construction documents that are related to energy, such as energy engineering, energy management, and sustainable design to ensure conformance to the University’s Energy Master Plan.
Conduct energy audits to evaluate energy use, costs, or conservation measures.
Perform energy modeling, measurement, verification, commissioning, or retro-commissioning.
Conduct jobsite observations, field inspections, and/or collection of sub-metering data for energy conservation analyses.
Work with the Manager, EMCS monitor energy systems, including heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) daylighting systems and building envelope to determine energy use or potential energy savings.
Direct the work of contractors or staff in the implementation of energy management projects.
Prepare project reports and other program or technical documentation.
Analyze, interpret, or create graphical representations of energy data, using engineering software.
Recommend process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance.
Review energy purchase agreements.
Provide consultation to clients or other engineers on topics such as climate control systems, energy modeling, data logging, energy management control systems, lighting or daylighting design, sustainable design, and energy auditing.
Educate personnel and promote awareness on topics such as energy management, operational procedures, green practices, and renewable energy.
Conduct research or collect data on renewable or alternative energy systems.
Work with contractors and vendor installation in support of energy management programs and procedures. Oversee contractors in the maintenance of energy management systems, determine performance.
Serve on various committees of the University and perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Utilities.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers; Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), Microsoft Publisher, Visio, Facility Center (CMMS)
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
2. Minimum of seven years’ experience in the Utilities/Energy industry and/or management of energy conservation projects/programs.
3. Demonstrated experience with building management systems.
4. Demonstrated experience with sustainability programs.
5. Demonstrated experience with Facilities Operations.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems for buildings.
7. Demonstrated analytical skills.
8. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and design simple mechanical systems.
9. Demonstrated computer skills.
10. Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
11. Demonstrated proficiency with written communication skills.
12. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
1. Master’s Degree.
2. Professional Engineer certification.
3. Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager.
4. AEE Certified Energy Procurement Professional.
