THE OPPORTUNITY
The Manager, Employee and Labor Relations is responsible for strategically engaging with all employees in Employee and Labor Relations matters. Leads through modelling all Core Values and demonstrating appropriate behaviors.
Oversees performance management processes in alignment with the Employment Guidelines and policies as well as the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Investigates complaints and identifies resolutions to limit disruption to department morale and to support optimal team performance. Represents the College in the Collective Bargaining negotiation process, seeks to ensure positive labor relations and consistent communication with the union and management. Identifies process improvement solutions to enhance engagement with all employees and key stakeholders.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Serves as a member of the HR leadership team that advances the HR strategy and determines and drives Employee and Labor Relations goals and initiatives.   

Manages the Employee & Labor Relations Specialist by delegating and assigning work, coaching and counseling on processes and protocols, providing support and guidance.

Advises managers in best employee and labor relations practices and strategies.

Evaluates and edits documentation regarding corrective action, in alignment with college policy, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement in response to a variety of complex situations.

Collaborates with external and internal legal counsel and departments in the preparation for and participation in negotiation with employee and union matters.

Represents Babson College in Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations, as well as quarterly meetings with the union.

Ensures consistent and clear communication with the SEIU, union members, and management.

Serves as a resource to HR staff and community on interpretation of the Employment Guidelines, policies, and best practices.

Develops and conducts or participates in specialized presentations and training as needed.

Initiates, directs, and administers employment-based visa petitions collaboratively with the Vice President, Academic Affairs & Dean of College, division chairs, department leaders, and outside immigration counsel.

Researches HR trends and/or best practices and recommends changes as appropriate.

Manages and monitors expenses impacting the ADA accommodation cost center.

Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED

Bachelor’s Degree

Four years of professional human resource administration, including two years in employee relations preferred OR its equivalent through training, education, and other experience.

Must have excellent verbal, written and presentation communications skills.

Thorough understanding of state and federal laws concerning employment and labor relations.

Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.

Ability to negotiate complex matters, including the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Separations, and Terminations.

Thorough understanding of complaint and investigations leading to appropriate resolution.

Must have excellent prioritization, planning and organizing skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to interact professionally with internal/external constituents with a solution-oriented position, confidentially and diplomatically handle situations and information with emotional maturity, confidence and ease.

Must have proven time and project management skills and possess a high attention-to-detail orientation.

Ability to work independently with initiative and to manage workload.

Ability to provide exceptional client interactions with all levels both internally and externally.

Must have knowledge of expense and budget reporting, accounts payable and contracting processes.

Must be an expert with Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and proficient overall computer skills, including research methods and sources.
