Job Summary
 
 
Assists students and provides outreach in evaluating students’ abilities, interests, talents, and personality characteristics in order to develop realistic academic and career goals.  Uses counseling sessions and interest assessment tests to evaluate and advise students.  Assists students to develop job search skills such as resume writing and interviewing techniques. Trains and supervises staff.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Conducts individual and group counseling sessions as well as provides leadership in developing and implementing career counseling strategies and programs in order to enhance the career decision-making process and counsels students on job seeking
  • Manages and trains employees in conducting psychological tests that assess personality type, career interests, skills, and values
  • Conducts extensive Outreach Programs and serves as a liaison between Career Services and university community by setting up career programming such as workshops and presentations.  In addition, acts as liaison with external constituencies by conducting training sessions as approved by the Director
  • Directs and supervises professional staff, graduate assistants, and interns/practicum student(s) to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints, and solving problems and other duties as assigned
  • Administers and interprets assessments, tests, and/or inventories to determine the individual’s abilities, interests, etc., to identify viable career options
  • Teaches strategies and skills for job hunting and assists in the development of resumes, cover letters, interviewing tips and follow up letters.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Minimum Qualifications  
     
    Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in higher education, student personnel, counseling, psychology, or related field. One to two years of related experience and/or training.

    •  Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner and provide quality feedback
    • Resourceful and determined to provide a positive experience for others.
    • Ability to establish goals and objectives
    • Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others
    • Takes initiative to seek opportunities for development for both self and the team
    • Ability to administer and interpret several career assessments measures and personality tests, at least one course in tests and measurements, and/or statistics required at the graduate level.
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
