Position Focus:

The Manager, Staff & Faculty Affairs is responsible for managing and monitoring the community's administrative and human resources policies it. This position will act as the strategic partner to deans, program chairs, managers, and Human Resources business partner (HRBP) in providing direction to ensure high-quality staff and faculty support for the school to support the overall mission. This position directs the planning, organization, and management of programs, systems, policies, and procedures to ensure the highest level of faculty and staff satisfaction through operational efficiency and delivery of timely and accurate services. This position is a critical conduit for strengthening the interface between school needs and University requirements. In close cooperation and with guidance from the University’s Offices of Human Resources, Faculty Affairs, and OEIA, the Manager helps to provide solutions and recommendations related to employee, faculty, and compliance issues. Supports Deans on matters pertaining to staff and faculty.


Essential Duties

1. Working with Deans, assist in creating and implementing creative programs and initiatives that ensure equitable and inclusive practices and support community-building efforts. Acts as a critical conduit between the HRBP and the DGSD community.2. Oversees and participates in (as appropriate) the hiring process for staff and faculty, job requisitions, onboarding, reappointment, & salary changes, and record keeping.  Works with faculty and managers to create job descriptions and oversee the entire employment lifecycle, including initiating job requestions and overseeing STARS and Interfolio postings. Guides the Deans, Chairs, and faculty through the appointment, reappointment, and promotion processes. Drafts letters of offer, appointment, or salary for Dean. Serves as INTERFOLIO administrator. Implements faculty search, promotion, and leave processes, working with the Provost’s Office and DGSD Governance Board, as appropriate.3. In addition to the onboarding process created by the hiring manager, develop and implement new employee onboarding processes and organize and support staff development. Ensures onboarding processes are inclusive and designed to emphasize the importance of welcoming and integrating new faculty and staff into DGSD/YRT’s culture. Serves as a member of the onboarding committee.4. Serve as a source of knowledge related to faculty policies. Assists in faculty merit reviews and calibrations.  5. Review and determine staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines, and labor agreement interpretations for exempt and non-exempt staff. Creates, reviews, and updates new and existing staff and faculty position descriptions, ensuring alignment with DGSD/YRT values of equity, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism, and Yale requirements.6. Provides strategic support for organizational change. Analyze the impact of the change(s), explore options, and offer recommendations.7. Serves as a resource to staff and faculty in university policies and other best practices in flexible and remote work arrangements, return to work protocols, and caregiver needs in consultation with HRBP.8. Oversees annual performance review process (FOCUS), ensuring training in providing ongoing feedback and conducting formal reviews. Works with the Digital Technology department to update local performance management databases. 9. In concert with the Director of Finance, oversees training compliance mandated by Yale and DGSD/YRT.10. Partners with the School’s business office and the University concerning completing I-9s, conflict of interest forms, and other compliance requirements.11. Partners with managers and employees to identify and address faculty and staff training and development needs. Serves as administrator of the STAR grant program and staff development fund.12. Provides resources and opportunities for managers to build skills to become supervisors of the highest caliber.13. Oversees faculty and staff recognition programs.14. In concert with appropriate personnel, develop and initiate wellness programs.15. Manages, creates, and leads efforts around organizational structure including, but not limited to, organization charts, published staffing lists, and mailing and distribution lists.16. Other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and four years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to act as a driver of complex hiring and compensation processes. Hyper administrative attention to detail.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Well-developed decision making, planning, organizational skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft suite and online file organization.
