Job Description

Under the direction of ASU’s Managing Director for Strategic Technology Initiatives, the Management Intern position will support the Office of University Affairs in advancing public-private partnerships related to microelectronics and other critical technologies. A significant portion of this portfolio will focus on supporting and advancing microelectronics projects and programs as part of the CHIPS and Science Act with the opportunity to take on additional projects related to the Management Intern’s own interests.

The preferred location for this position is Washington D.C., but applicants based in Tempe are also welcome. The position can be hybrid, but it must be based out of an ASU building located in either Washington D.C. or Tempe.

Salary Range

$22.00 - $25.00 per hour; DOE


Essential Duties

  • Work under ASU’s Managing Director for Strategic Technology Initiatives, producing and reviewing materials, organizing and supporting new projects, and providing analysis
  • Assist with strategy, implementation, and partnerships for ASU’s strategic technology programs
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on emerging and strategic technologies and related policy issues to inform decision-making for ASU’s top leadership
  • Support grant strategy and writing, meetings with partners, and related projects
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders (government, industry, and academia) and internal stakeholders from across the ASU Enterprise (Office of Government & Community Engagement, Knowledge Enterprise, Academic Enterprise (especially the Fulton Schools of Engineering), and Learning Enterprise)
  • Create presentations and other effective communications about ASU’s strategic technology initiatives
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the Managing Director

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with defense or national security policy, economic policy, appropriations, grant writing, and/or public administration
  •  Interest in science and technology policy, policy analysis, and/or research and development
  •  Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint in particular), Google Drive (Docs and Slides in particular), Dropbox, Zoom, and experience in adapting to new technology.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
Work location: The Managing Director for Strategic Technology Initiatives is based in ASU’s Barrett O’Connor Washington, D.C., Center. The Management Intern can be based on the Tempe campus or the Barrett O’Connor Washington, D.C., Center.
