Maintenance Mechanic (Southampton Hospital) - FT Nights

 

 

POSITION: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

 

DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES & ENGINEERING

 

STATUS: REGULAR/FULL TIME

 

HOURS: NIGHTS (10:00pm – 6:00am)

 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • The following are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills of staff so classified. The responsible individual may be required to service/maintain equipment or care for other responsibilities at the Hospital and/or at any of the many “Off-Site Facilities” as determined by the Director of Facilities and Engineering or appointed personnel.
  • Performs routine tasks associated with maintenance, repair, installation and alteration of basic electrical, plumbing and mechanical jobs.
  • Performs preventive, casualty and corrective maintenance on equipment.
  • Assembling, installing, and maintaining mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment. Troubleshooting machinery and performing routine preventative maintenance.
  • Reading, interpreting, and following instructions and operation manuals.
  • Maintaining a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing machinery. Cleaning, repairing and installing equipment and parts as needed.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work area. Complying with health and safety regulations. Performing general maintenance work on buildings as assigned.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • New York State Driver’s License required.
  • One-Year on-the-job experience preferred. Trade or vocational school graduate preferred.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability. Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to read and write in order to understand equipment operating instructions and maintain logs and records of work performed and to interpret noncomplex blueprints and manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and to lift objects weighing up to fifty pounds. Occasional exposure to excessive noise from machinery and to minor physical shocks or burns from equipment.
  • Physical dexterity.

  • This function/position maybe designated as “essential.” This means that when the Hospital is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook University Hospital and related facilities. 

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements: 

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). 

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer. 

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Given StaffCo’s employment responsibilities, it is deemed the “employer” for employment and labor law purposes.  Thus, the employees are private sector employees of StaffCo, not public sector employees of SUNY.  The private sector nature of the StaffCo employees has been approved by NYS Civil Service and upheld in a decision by the US National Labor Relations Board.
