Are you ready to join a growing team! Facilities Hospital Maintenance is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our hospital service team. The candidate will report to the AVP-Hospital Support & Maintenance. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal functioning of UAB Medical West Hospital, located in Bessemer, Alabama, by overseeing all aspects of maintenance operations. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

1.     Team Leadership: Leads and manages a skill team of maintenance professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

2.     Facility Maintenance: Oversees the maintenance of hospital facilities, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general building systems, to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

3.     Preventive Maintenance: Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs to enhance the longevity of equipment and systems.

4.     Compliance: Ensures compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and The Joint Commission standards governing healthcare facility maintenance.

5.     Budget Management: Effectively manages the maintenance budget, allocating resources efficiently and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.  

6.     Project Management: Leads and coordinates maintenance projects, collaborating with other departments and external contractors as needed. Works with other departments within the organization to ensure effective communications between departments, including public safety agencies and departments such as fire services, police departments, hospitals, and emergency medical services (EMS) organizations. Works with hospital leadership to coordinate access to patient care rooms or areas to ensure inspection, testing and maintenance activities or repairs can occur on schedule or as needed while adhering to infection control protocols, and contribute to overall patient safety.

7.     Emergency Response: Develops and implements emergency response plans for maintenance issues, ensuring a swift and effective resolution to minimize disruptions.

8.     Recordkeeping: Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment inspections, and repairs for documentation and future reference.

9.     Training and Development: Assists with providing training and development opportunities for the maintenance team to enhance their skills and knowledge.

10.  Vendor Management: Collaborates with vendors and suppliers to source materials and services required for maintenance activities, ensuring cost – effectiveness and quality.

 

STARTING RATE OF PAY: Starting rates are based on our Compensation Guidelines, taking into consideration total relevant, verifiable experience (UAB/UAB Medicine and outside experience), grade minimum, internal equity, and pay ranges.

 

Qualifications

 

Associate’s degree in Business, Science or a related field, post-secondary vocation OR technical two year school diploma OR master card in plumbing or electrical OR HVAC state contractor’s license OR NICET certification OR equivalent certification AND eight (8) years of experience in commercial or industrial maintenance. Experience in operations and maintenance, engineering of electrical and/or mechanical systems in healthcare facilities is a plus.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  

·         Proven experience in a maintenance leadership role, preferably within a healthcare setting

·         Strong knowledge of building systems, codes, and regulations

·         Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

·         Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

·         Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)

·         Ability to manage various financial aspects

·    Required to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities that require performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, walking significant distances between and within buildings within the facility, frequent traveling, prolonged standing, climbing stairs, and sitting at computer for long periods of time.
