Machine Shop Student Educator

Job Summary

This position will work in the Student Project Machine Shop and provide direct instruction to students in the use of Machine Tools to make prototype parts. This position helps students develop drawings and solid models of parts and translate these drawings into real parts using machine tools in the ME project Machine Shop. This position will also ensure safety is maintained within the ME Student project shop complex and assist with proper training procedures for student employees. This position will also serve as an instructor for formal ME lab courses meeting in the Student Project Machine Shop requiring good verbal and written communication as well as the ability to handle complex problems with novel solving skills.

What We Are Looking For

 

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Education
  • A minimum of 4-5 years of experience in teaching or working in a teaching shop environment 
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered

 

Skills:

Required:

  • Ability to use Manual Machine Tools (Mill, Lathe, Bandsaw, and basic fabrication techniques)
  • CAD software fundamentals using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software

 

Preferred:

  • CNC knowledge
  • CO2 laser knowledge
  • Computer skills
  • Making or prototyping experience
