Posting Summary
Manage, maintain, and organize the prototyping labs in the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS). Instruct undergraduate students in machining, prototyping, and basic laboratory procedures including safety and equipment use. Supervise teaching assistants and work study students. Coordinate the maintenance of equipment and purchasing of supplies for the laboratories specifically the Machine, Prototyping, and Fabrication spaces. Support research and teaching lab projects through the design and fabrication of experimental apparatus. Provide technical and instructional services for specialized engineering areas, under the general supervision of the CEMS Facilities & Labs Manager.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Three to five years’ experience working in a machine or fabrication shop and an associate degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree required. Familiarity with material testing machines and G-code programming required. Knowledge of metallurgy and machining procedures (both conventional and CNC) required. Proficient in MIG, TIG, and metal arc welding.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience teaching technical skills to untrained students a plus. Experience with additive manufacturing technology preferred. Experience using common engineering software including AutoCad, Solid Works and LabView.
