Job Description:

Job Summary:

The Physical Education, Health, and Wellness Department (PEHW) is responsible for the Physical, Health, and Wellness education of students in grades K-11. The responsibility of a Physical Education teacher is to foster an environment that contributes to the overall wellness of each student. You will be required to create daily lesson plans that relate to the physical, social and affective domains and provide students with the opportunities to learn and develop in each area. Teachers must be able to teach a wide variety of physical skills and activities across many different grade levels. Responsibilities: 

  • Instruct students in physical education at the Historic Campus (grades 3-11) 

  • Interact and collaborate with faculty members, administration, and parents. 

  • Teachers are responsible for developing a curriculum that is focused on the physical and emotional well being of each student. 

  • Maintain up-to-date teaching techniques to provide students with a quality educational experience. 

  • Build relationships with students, families, other faculty and staff to communicate about student progress and to foster an inclusive culture. 

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or related field required. 

  • K-12 PE certification preferred. 

  • Master's degree preferred. 

  • Coursework or degree that reflects multicultural content preferred. 

Experience:

  • Teaching experience preferred. 

  • Ability to teach across multiple grade levels (LS,MS,HS) preferred. 

  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid training preferred. 

  • Experience working with a wide range of students from diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language, and nationality preferred.

  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and parents required.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

    • Ability to move in and around the classroom/building to interact with students, faculty, staff, parents, and other members of the community. 

    • Ability to move class-related equipment/tools, as appropriate, around school property.

    • When appropriate, the ability to escort children from one classroom to another, in and out of the building during arrival and dismissal, and in an emergency situation. 

    • Ability to demonstrate skills, when appropriate.
