Job Summary / Basic Function | This position reports to the Carpenter Foreman and performs skilled work relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electro-mechanical and electronic locking and security devices. • Installs services, and repairs panic hardware, door closures, astragalus, door coordination’s, hinges, and lock and latch sets. • Installs, services, and repairs keypad entry systems, electronic or electro-mechanical locking devices, and electro-mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic door operators. • Prepares and maintains keying systems design, specification, layout, and implementation to provide effective protection. • Makes keys and changes combinations, pins, lock cylinders, and provides and maintains a key and lock inventory of university facilities. • Maintains both hardcopy and electronic records and files of all locks and keys made and to whom issued. • Changes safe combinations and locksets to ensure security for individual offices. • Services and maintains safe locking devices and opens them in the event of failure of the device. • Requisitions all parts, supplies and equipment used by the locksmith in accordance with university and departmental procedures; verifies the receipt and/or acceptance of purchased items. • Prepares cost estimates on requested or planned projects involving area of responsibility. • Utilizes a computer for electronic hardware, electronic servicing troubleshooting techniques and system design. • Operates the lock shop vehicle. |
