Job Summary
Auburn University Libraries seeks creative, dynamic, and results-oriented candidates for the position of Library Technical Specialist at the Library of Architecture, Design and Construction. The successful candidate will be hired at Specialist I/II, Library Technical commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. The person in this position reports to the Head of the Library of Architecture, Design and Construction (LADC). The successful candidate will perform a variety of technical and specialized paraprofessional library responsibilities involved in the investigation, organization and dissemination of library materials and resources, and responds to reference and search questions. The normal work hours are Monday through Friday 7:45am-4:45pm with occasional evenings, nights and weekends depending on LADC operational needs.
The LADC is a branch of Auburn University Libraries and primarily supports the research, study, and teaching needs of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction. The LADC is also a resource for professionals in related fields and for the community.

Essential Functions
The primary duties include but are not limited to:
  • Processes, catalogs, and documents architectural materials in Voyager and DSpace digital collection. Manages the collection such as process new materials and assessing damaged materials. Maintains catalog records for books and print journals. Manages print course reserve items. Assists the librarian with maintaining an up-to-date reference collection. Handles complex responsibilities to include creation of the catalog record, provision of services to the public, and other library operations.
  • Assists patrons in researching and obtaining information from library or archival collections and instructs patrons in the use of library systems. Assists patrons with fines and fees and searches for lost and missing items. Coordinates presentations for library resources.
  • Conducts annual inventory of all architectural materials. Assists with documenting and analyzing reference transactions and recording statistics. Gathers and interprets complex data (ex: library computer records) and relevant information from different sources and prepares written documentation of issues/procedures. Responds to document delivery for interlibrary loan and scanning requests.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with Adobe, Microsoft Suite products and other technology resources as they may arise with the library technology space. Monitors and answers LibChat questions. Assists with using SpringShare products. Submits library help tickets as needed.
  • Supervises and trains student workers. Monitors and promotes the safe use of the library collections, facility, and services in the absence of the Head of the LADC to include administrative duties. Represents the department on committees.
  • Cross-trains and serves as backup for other Library Technical Specialist as needed. Works occasional evenings, nights and weekends to fill in and cover non-traditional operational hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of relevant experience.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of relevant experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Area of Experience: Managing and processing complex data or materials and familiarity with basic computer applications and designs.

  • Familiarity with computer applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Job frequently requires standing, walking, reaching, balancing, hearing, handling objects with hands, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
