Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Biomedical Library is seeking to hire a Library Technical Assistant I. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Performs circulation desk activities to include charging/discharging materials and study room keys.
  • Initializes, sells and revalues copy cards.
  • Posts and collects fines.
  • Records replacement costs for lost library materials.
  • Processes overdue items.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots copiers in the public computer area.
  • Supervises and trains students to include charging/discharging materials, stack maintenance, straightening up of library, scanning, shelving, shelf reading, pulling for bindery and Interlibrary Loan.
  • Conducts user surveys using the e-survey provided.
  • Maintains booking calendar.
  • Opens and closes the library according to procedure.
  • Assists patrons in locating books/journals in both electronic and print format.
  • Interprets SOUTHCat, the online catalog.
  • Requests materials not available in the USA collections.
  • Participates in stack maintenance, scanning, shelving and shifting.
  • Places holds on patron records for fines/fees and lost items using Banner.
  • Maintains security protocols of the library with multiple walk throughs of the library every night.
  • Maintains library appearance to include general cleaning, set up of rooms and watering plants.
  • Answers telephone and directs calls.
  • Works on special projects as assigned.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
