Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Marx Library is seeking to hire a Library Technical Assistant I . Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Operates the Circulation area of the Marx Library.
  • Opens and closes the library as needed.
  • Provides assistance and information related to library services, policies, procedures, and collections.
  • Assists faculty, staff, and students in searching library databases and locating materials, routing research queries to librarians as needed.
  • Fields directional and troubleshooting questions.
  • Monitors library facility and equipment and reports or resolves issues as needed.
  • Monitors library user space, study rooms, meeting rooms, and usage.
  • Contacts University IT, police, and facilities personnel as necessary to resolve issues requiring immediate attention, informing library supervisor and other personnel as needed concerning challenging issues.
  • Utilizes Voyager system to charge or discharge items, collects fines and fees and clears patron accounts.
  • Utilizes Banner System to place, modify or remove holds on patron accounts.
  • Operates cash register and credit card machine for collection of monies for fines, fees, TracCard transactions and other transactions.
  • Maintains 3M security gates, records patron door counts.
  • Maintains TracCard inventory.
  • Assists patrons with computers, printers, copiers, and other equipment.
  • Performs routine cleaning and minor maintenance of computers and equipment.
  • Works with library personnel to inform guidelines for replacement of materials.
  • Monitors student assistants and work study students to accomplish tasks assigned by Circulation supervisors.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 lbs., by pulling, pushing, and lifting unassisted.
  • Utilizes strong interpersonal skills while providing excellent customer service to a diverse population.
  • Works weekends and nights as required.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
