The Law Library provides comfortable research and study areas in a primarily wireless environment. Students, faculty, and attorneys have access to an extensive collection of both print and electronic research resources. The Law library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents.

Reporting to the Law Library’s Circulation Supervisor, this position is responsible for providing service to library users at the Circulation Desk, managing course reserves, and assisting with access services operations.

 *** This is a part-time, partial benefit-eligible position working 20 hours per week.

Hours are 7pm-11pm Sunday – Thursday; 7pm – 12 midnight during exam period.*** 

The position supervises Student Assistants, upon absence of the Circulation Supervisor.

General functions include, but are not limited to:  

  • Provides service to library users at the Circulation Desk, including checking materials in and out, answering questions regarding circulation policies, providing information to patrons, answering phones, making referrals to other departments
  • Maintains library environment and collections, including pushing in chairs, shelving materials, filing looseleafs and microform, directing maintenance workers to problems, assisting with the reserve collection, and reporting maintenance issues
  • Supervises and trains library student assistants in absence of Circulation Supervisor, in areas including library systems, technology, and policies
  • Opens or closes the law library on at least one weekend day; which includes opening all essential doors, turning on lights, scanners, and picking up newspapers and books from the book drop
  • Assists with projects such as processing library notices, searching for lost or ‘claimed returned’ books, patron counts, shelf-reading, shifting the collection, and withdrawal.
  • Assists with lending and borrowing of items from other libraries
  • Performs the document delivery services for law faculty and staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

: 

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED and three years of library, customer service, or office experience. Supervisory or lead worker experience may be required for some positions.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated experience in the following: problem solving; adapting to change; showing initiative.
  • Supervisory/customer service experience, including ability to enforce policies in a professional and personable manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Computer experience with standard office software and library applications such as Alma and SpringShare.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Use of computer technology for communication, data gathering, and reporting.
