Clackamas Community College (CCC) seeks to hire a part-time Library Circulation Assistant position. The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Library Services Coordinators with the circulation and maintenance of library resources.

CCC Library supports the mission of Clackamas Community College by providing user-friendly research tools, relevant resources, customized library instruction, and welcoming, inclusive spaces for the CCC community. CCC Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance Library Consortium.


This position will work 10 hours per week.
Schedule: Wednesday 3:00PM-8:00PM, Thursday 12:30PM-5:45PM. 

Hours may vary during the Summer term. 
Essential Job Functions::
Proficient in all library circulations functions. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Check-out library materials to patrons using the Integrated Library System (ILS).
  • Check-in library materials using the (ILS)
  • Create and update patron records using the ILS
  • Create reports using the ILS
  • Protect the confidentiality of patron records
Provide customer service at the circulation desk to students, staff and community patrons. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Provide directions to other locations on campus and at branch campuses
  • Answer phone, take messages, refer caller to appropriate resource
  • Provide assistance with printing and photocopiers
  • Provide assistance with the Library Web page
  • Post announcements to the public in a timely manner
Maintain the integrity of the books, CD and other collections. This includes but is not limited to:
  • Re-shelve books, magazines, newspapers, etc. with a high level of accuracy using Library of Congress classification
  • Note the condition of library materials and refer damaged items to the Library Services Coordinator
  • Participate in inventory projects
  • Train and check the work of student assistants
  • Dusting and vacuuming of library resources as necessary
Work on special projects as assigned.
Auxiliary Job Functions:
Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of library methods, procedures and practices;
  • Demonstrated techniques for providing a high level of customer service in person, in writing and over the telephone;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, time management and organizational skills;
  • Work independently, quickly, and accurately with close attention to detail in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions and changing priorities; 
  • Operate a computer and word processing software and other standard office equipment.

Physical Demands of the Position:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required more than 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computers and other standard office equipment.  
Working Conditions:
Typical library/office setting. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general direction of the Library Manager and Library Service Coordinator.
