Library Associate
Law Library
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
The Library Associate divides their time and duties between the Access Services and Acquisitions teams in the Law Library. In Access Services, this position trains student employees on processing-related tasks, assists with student employee training on other designated tasks, maintains daily statistics, manages technical support requests to vendors, and assists with other duties within the access services team. In Acquisitions, this position provides support to the Acquisitions Librarian by assisting with paying invoices, communicating with vendors by phone, email, fax, and web-bases forms, posting payments in Integrated Library System, organizing, and maintaining library payment records, ordering supplies as needed, and serving as back-up for mail check-in. In all duties, the Library Associate develops relationships and/or interacts with student employees, fellow library staff and librarians, law school faculty and staff, law school alumni, and members of the public.
Position Schedule: 

  • Regular Semester Hours: M-F, 7am – 3:30pm
  • Occasional partial weekend days.
  • Occasional exceptions or alternate schedule, as arranged with supervisor, during finals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Understands terminology and functions of basic computer knowledge (CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, memory, hard drive, server, operating system, cloud storage, USB, etc.).
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on computers and other office machinery, such as Xerox copiers, scanners, printers, and multi-line phone systems.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills, including an attention to detail and customer service.
• Ability to both work as part of a team and work independently.
• Ability to work well in a rapidly changing environment and adapt to changes in workflows and procedures.
• Skilled in project management.

Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree
OR 
• Associate’s Degree in Library Science (or a related field) with 3 years of directly related work experience in academic libraries or other law libraries.
OR
• High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with 6 years of directly related work experience in academic libraries or other law libraries.
Preferred Qualifications
• 1 year of full-time experience in an academic law library or 2 years of part-time experience in an academic law library.
• 1 year of direct supervisory experience, including hiring, firing, and performance management.
• Experience with on-campus student employment and/or shift workers in an environment that requires continuous coverage.
• Experience mentoring college students.
• Experience working with legal terminology. 
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 23.
