The Long Island (LI) Taste NY Market Special Projects Coordinator will assist the LI Taste NY Market Manager with the overall operation of the LI Taste NY Market. Primary responsibilities include managing all market clerks and staff during specified daily shift at the market, assist with clerical/administrative support with day-to-day planning, coordination, and routine management, including, but not limited to: opening and closing duties; customer support; straightforward inventory management; purchasing, operation of cash register; basic cash controls; operation and maintenance of inventory and Point of Sale software; regular staff scheduling; transportation of inventory from warehouse to store; customer service; and general record keeping. This position will assist with special events and projects including, but not limited to, fundraising, events and new projects. This position will provide supervision to offsite Taste NY Kiosk Sales Clerks/Ambassadors as required The LI Taste NY Market Special Projects Coordinator promotes local agricultural products and agri-tourism and will help represent CCE-NC to the public, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets and Cornell University; a familiarity with local agriculture products and retail food sales will be demonstrated.

    

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or Equivalent Education (GED/High School Diploma and one year of transferable program/functional experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Must be able to drive personal or Association vehicle for pick-up and delivery of product (hand-cart or dolly may be used for transportation purposes – no heavy equipment use required).
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 lbs. regularly.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to complete basic math functions in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual channels using traditional tools and methods. 
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to follow procedures and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, sound professional judgment and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years Food Service retail experience.
  • Certification in Food Safety Course.
  • Familiarity with electronic technology (e.g. video, audio, computers, etc.). 
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Understanding of basic marketing.
  • Proficiency with programs such as Microsoft Office (Excel) and Internet-based communications.
  • Financial accounting and order tracking.
  • Ability to work independently, make decisions, attend to details, and handle multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Ability to manage staff, create and maintain schedules, manage inventory, purchase concession items, consumables and janitorial goods.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery - 10%

  • Utilizing existing resources, including guidance of CCE-Nassau County and LI-TNY Market Manager to promote NY Agriculture to LI Taste NY Marketplace customers.
  • Provide experiential learning opportunities to vendors and customers regarding the Taste NY mission.
  • Teach LI Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassadors about marketing practices as part of program delivery.
  • Educate LI Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassadors on local and/or regional food and agricultural products.
  • Engage and interact with customers to educate them on the local food system, the regional NY food shed and agricultural related issues.
  • Utilizing established materials serve as Taste NY products subject matter resource and provide standard response.
  • Represent CCE before the public, community leaders, government officials, Cornell or other land grant universities as part of program delivery.

Administrative Responsibilities:

 

Management - 5%

  • Provide management (including recruitment and selection) and supervision (including guidance, performance feedback and annual performance reviews) to designated staff in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocol, and provide regular staffing updates to the LI Taste NY Market Manager and/or Executive Director as required.
  • Assist LI Taste NY Market Manager to provide indirect guidance and oversight to LI Taste NY clerk staff on facilities maintenance and housekeeping chores.
  • Give guidance and oversee completion of clerk staff entries into store log, time cards and/or equipment journals for offsite locations as needed.
  • Assist LI Taste NY Market Manager when unavailable to interface with DOT/Empire State Development (ESD) (property owner) and 3rd party contractors according to established policies and procedures.
  • Work with LI Taste NY Market Manager to provide indirect supervision and guidance of clerks during shift for all cleaning, restocking, displays, etc.
  • Work with LI Taste NY Market Manager to ensure that staff arrive on time and are implementing store duties during shift.
  • Manage Special Projects duties and prioritize in order to meet deadlines.
  • Oversee stock in offsite sales locations/kiosk.

Coordination/Operation - 80%

  • Train LI Taste NY Market Sales Clerk/Ambassadors in the specifics of marketing local farms and food products in a Taste NY market setting.
  • Assist with Taste NY projects and events.
  • Prepare reports regularly for management which include operation metrics and observational data.
  • Assist LI Taste NY Market Manager with regular staff scheduling.
  • Learn and work with inventory software and POS software.
  • Receive incoming deliveries and management logistics of off-site storage location, transport product to store from warehouse (driving is required).
  • Support LI Taste NY Market Manager with inventory management; monthly shrink records and physical inventory.
  • Assist LI Taste NY Market Manager when needed, in cash errands and off-site errands.
  • Support LI Taste NY Market Manager for the timely delivery of inventory invoices and purchase orders in preparation for accounting department.
  • Submit expense reports in a timely fashion for monthly reimbursement.
  • Providing routine clerical and retail market service. 
  • Act in the capacity of cashier, stock clerk, utility clerk as necessary when short staffed.
  • Provide routine support to analyze electronic problems with equipment and/or POS equipment or mechanical issues with refrigerators, freezers and/or other machinery at facility.
  • Coordinate repairs on programs or machinery with appropriate vendors. Equipment includes but not limited to: multi-line phone, cash register, interactive display and video monitor.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 40 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $22.00 - $24.25, commensurate with experience. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation and sick leave.
