Course Description

The University Apprenticeship Supervisor will play a crucial role in guiding and supporting pre-student teachers during their clinical field placement course, EDFP Apprenticeship I: ESL. The supervisor will:  

  • coordinate with the instructors of the corequisite classes EDD 449 Teaching English as a Second Language and EDT 317 Learning Technology in Content Areas meeting twice a semester and communicating regularly,
  • observe the instruction of four lesson plans from each student either in person or using GoReact and evaluate the lesson plans,
  • provide regular support and advice throughout the semester,
  • grade weekly reflections and case study assignments on Canvas,
  • meet with the cohort of students twice per semester at the beginning of each field placement, and
  • manage issues and concerns that arise with students during their placement.

The selected candidate will be responsible for instruction of EDFP 401: Apprenticeship I: ESL


Required Qualifications*

The position requires that the candidate have a master's or doctoral degree in education or a closely related field and experience teaching adult learners. Candidates must also have: 

  • Teaching certification with experience in PK-12 education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in technological pedagogical content knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Culturally Responsive Practices in Literacy.
  • Familiarity with Literacy Curriculum Design and Assessment.
  • Understanding of language development and literacy across diverse linguistic backgrounds.
  • Training in Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Applications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in technological pedagogical content knowledge and demonstrate a deep understanding of various influences on child development and learning. This individual should be well-versed in Culturally Responsive Practices in Literacy, Literacy Curriculum Design and Assessment, and have expertise in promoting language development and literacy across diverse linguistic backgrounds. Familiarity with Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is essential.
